Act I, Scene 2

Mrs. Hunter Fortune and her daughter Belle have
arrived at Lord & Taylor to shop for Belle's trousseau.
In this parody of "The Doll Song," Belle sings about
the rules of proper social behavior learned at her
mother's knee.

Nurturing of the female mind
    is little but waste powder,
Just as is that of the heart,
    or showing of compassion!
For ammunition, charm and corsets
    tend to speak much louder,
A pretty woman’s purpose
is to wear the latest fashion!

Oh my beautiful daughter,
You shall surely find a rich husband!
Act I, Scene 2

Rachel Stitcher, Bridget O'Malley and Kathleen
O'Leary have arrived at the home of Senza
Bliss, ready for work.  As the scene opens,
they sing of their never ending work week.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
And Wednesday and Thursday, Friday.
    Then start over!
Work about sixteen hours per day.
But only seven days out of the week.
