The Veil of Forgetfulness
Fully-Staged World Premiere February 27/28 and March 6/7, 2010
The Veil of Forgetfulness had its first concert reading on November 11 and 13, 2007 in the 16th Annual MUSIC AT
HOLY TRINITY concert series. The orchestration is now complete and we begin the countdown to the fully staged, fully
orchestrated, revised version of the work. You can follow the progress on my blog at SusanStoderl.net/blog. Pictures and
sound clips from the reading can be found by clicking on GALLERY above.
Walking on Earth
Song Cycle for Soprano and Piano
This cycle of six songs is now finished. It is my tribute to Mother Earth. The text deals with several related ideas: the
ever-changing cycles of nature, mans general disregard of what has been set in place, and the enlightenment that follows
the recognition of these patterns.
In The Works
Myrddin's Prophecy
Opera/Ballet in Two Acts
This work was originally conceived for an application to the Aldeborough Residency Program. I will be working with
collaborating with Chriselle Tidrick, director/choreographer of Above and Beyond Dance and Brooklyn Repertory Opera on
this project. Ballet has not been used as a thoroughly integrated part of opera for some time. With this piece we intend
to do just that. The work will feature both traditional and aerial dance. The story is inspired by many of the ancient Welsh
texts concerning the historical character of Merlin, the legend of the Grail and Celtic mythology. In the fall of 2011 we
hope to premiere several scenes, with the full work to follow in 2012.
