About
BEYOND THE BOOKS |
the language of success

Beyond the Books | The Language of Success hosts timely information on the state of literacy in the U.S., and guest interviews with experts and those with hands-on experience in child and adult literacy. Guests include other writers, teachers, librarians, psychologists, social workers, businesspeople, life skills coaches, prison educators, ESL facilitators, and those who work with parent + child reading. The podcast examines literacy from a statistical and academic point of view, but also from that of children and adults who daily deal with literacy issues.

THE REASON BEHIND BEYOND THE BOOKS

In our current society, there are many attacks upon our primary, secondary, and college educational systems, book banning, library closings, and pushing social conformity through a constant onslaught of media influence. We should ensure that kids learn to read at the highest level they can achieve. To ensure their well-being, they need to think critically for themselves—to know how to ask if what they are being told and hearing is true or false. Literacy is essential to building a loving or at least respectful community. One cannot express an idea or concept, or indeed even think, without having the words to do so.
